1985 HOLDEN VK COMMODORE SS GROUP A — THE ORIGINAL "BLUE MEANIE." ONE OF ONLY 500 EVER BUILT. 101,068 KILOMETRES.
This is the car that started it all — the original Peter Brock/HDT Group A homologation special, and the very first of the Group A lineage that HSV would go on to build tribute editions of for decades afterward. Every genuine VK SS Group A was built to satisfy FISA's homologation rules for the switch to international Group A touring car regulations in 1985, and only 500 road cars were ever produced, hand-finished by Brock's HDT operation in Port Melbourne after leaving the Holden production line.
Under the bonnet is the specially tuned 4.9-litre Holden V8, producing 196kW and 418Nm, paired with the four-speed manual gearbox — genuinely potent for its era, capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 7.0 seconds and a 15.0-second standing 400 metres. It rides on 16-inch HDT Aero wheels with 225/50 VR16 Bridgestone Potenza tyres, with 281mm disc brakes all round.
This is the car that went on to win the 1986 Bathurst 1000 outright, taking first and second place and cementing the VK Group A's place in Australian motorsport history — a genuine piece of the Bathurst story, not just a road car with a badge.
At 101,068 kilometres over 41 years, this car has covered under 2,500 kilometres a year on average since new. Genuine, numbered, unmolested VK Group A road cars are among the most sought-after Australian collector cars ever built, and values have only ever trended upward since the 1980s — this is the foundation everything else in this category was built on.
We specialise in collectible performance, European and modern classic vehicles, sourcing examples that are often difficult to find on the open market. For most of our buyers, the hardest part isn't deciding to buy from us. It's finding another vehicle of comparable quality anywhere else.
